Chippenham Junior Strings is a junior string ensemble for any young musician who plays violin, viola, cello or double bass at beginner stage up to grade 2. The group is made up of mainly 8 to 12 year olds.
This has included specially commissioned pieces for children at an early stage of learning their instrument. A wide variety of music is offered and the children are taught to read simple notation and there is an opportunity to learn some improvisation skills.
Music is chosen to encourage a child in the very early stages of learning but also will have elements to challenge those who are more advanced.
Grade standards are a guidline to help parents select the most appropriate group. Students progress to the next level on the recommendation of their current conductor. Conductors liaise to make these decisions taking into account the musician's age, ability, ensemble skills and whether vacancies exist.
